Culture
Ambleside schools believe that a rich and varied curriculum is vital to the life of the mind. No one subject should take pre-eminence over another as all students should be prepared, not only for the diverse career choices after school, but should have a “feast of ideas” on which to draw from in all spheres of life.
All of our students from Pre-School to Grade 7 participate in art, handwork, nature study, poetry, picture study and composer study, and are introduced to drama through the world’s best playwrights, including an annual Shakespeare festival where the students perform an abbreviated version of Shakespeare’s plays as well as become familiar with traditions, games and sports of the time.
Their exposure to drama is extended through the stage productions that our Primary School puts on every second year. In alignment with our philosophy, our plays are drawn from the classics which introduce our students to age-old characters and rich storylines. One of the benefits of being such a small school is that every child has an opportunity to play their part in making the story come alive and no-one is left out.
Exposure to the arts is extended through the many independent extracurricular activities offered in Hout Bay, including:
- Drama
- Dance
- Pottery
- Art
- Singing
- Music
- Photography
