Lifelong SportsThe physical development of children is an integral part of their education. The goal of our Lifelong Sports program is to provide developmentally appropriate physical conditioning and exposure to a variety of sporting disciplines. In keeping with our philosophy that education is a habit, we hope to instill in our students a lifelong habit of healthy physical activity. With this goal in mind, every student participates in a weekly fitness program during school hours, which is the basis of our Lifelong Sports curriculum. The program was initially implemented by parent volunteer Gail Hunter, and is now run by Kirsten Farara. Gail also oversees our extra-mural athletics program. While the emphasis is on personal development and fun, students who want to compete are able to attend the Western Province trials for the annual South African Christian Schools Sports Association (SACSSA) athletics meeting.
ASHB students have represented Western Province at the SACSSA national athletics meeting since 2007. In addition to our fitness program, Ambleside students are encouraged to participate in one or two extra-mural sports each term, such as athletics, swimming, tennis, surfing, cross-country, or soccer. These sports are offered as extra-murals at the school, but a variety of other sporting activities are offered privately in and around Hout Bay. Students with a particular talent are encouraged to seek professional coaching at local clubs. Please contact the School Office for further information. |
